Construction is underway on the contentious Interstate 20/59 project. The ALDOT plan to replace aging bridges on the interstate through downtown Birmingham began with the permanent closure of the 17th Street exit off I-20/59 northbound. The project has the city’s business community concerned as investors and developers work to revitalize the area in and around downtown Birmingham.
