David Carrington on Downsizing Cooper Green and Charges of Racism
Jefferson County has a new bare bones budget that includes cuts in law enforcement, road maintenance and courts. It also includes 250 job cuts for Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, which provides medical care of the poor, uninsured and under-insured. Supporters of Cooper Green say it’s a vital community service and needs to be supported, not gutted. But County Commission President David Carrington tells WBHM’s Tanya Ott the hospital is a financial drain on a county that’s already deep in bankruptcy proceedings.
