Beginning tonight at 7 o’clock, the junction from I-65 southbound to I-20/59 eastbound will be closed as well as the eastbound exit to 17th street. ALDOT will be replacing large sections of concrete that have been damaged by water.

“Later on, two years down the road, we will have to demolish all of this work. It’s unfortunate that we have to spend this money in order to keep it open knowing that we’re going to have to get rid of that bridge in the future,” says ALDOT engineer DeJarvis Leonard.

ALDOT does not know how much this project will cost, but Leonard estimates several hundred thousand dollars. The work is scheduled to end Monday morning at 5 am.
