Rashah McChesney

Gulf States Newsroom Sr. Content Editor

Rashah McChesney is the senior content editor for the Gulf States Newsroom, a collaboration between public radio stations in Alabama (WBHM), Louisiana (WWNO and WRKF) and Mississippi (MPB-Mississippi Public Broadcasting) and NPR.

She is a photojournalist turned radio journalist focused on socioeconomics and how public policy shapes people’s lives. For most of her career, she has worked on the principle that the story dictates the medium – hoping to become the Swiss army knife of storytellers. Now, she focuses on passing those skills along to reporters.

She has won numerous awards for her writing, audio and photojournalism. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in Poland and Alaska. She has contributed to state, national and international newspapers and media outlets like the Associated Press, CNN, The Atlantic, NPR and Science Friday.

She was born and raised in Texas and spent the last decade telling stories in Alaska. When she’s not working, she prefers to be outside with her malamute or making music with strangers.
