Join us as we celebrate some of the many women who’ve shaped the soundtracks of our lives. Anthems of Pride – Women’s History Month Edition features songs by female artists, some of whom you know – and some are lesser known. These songs have defined movements and amplified women’s voices for more than seven decades. From jazz to punk – rock to hip hop – the music celebrates the power and resilience of women.

Anthems of Pride: Pride Month Edition
From New York City’s Stonewall Riots in 1969, to the Marches on Washington in 1987 and 1983 – first for “Lesbian and Gay rights,” then for “Lesbian, Gay and BI rights,” the now “LGBTQ+” community has seen progress in the struggle for the right to be “who they are.” Same-sex marriage was legalized in the U.S. in 2015, and Queer representation has increased in many areas of government, both local and national. [But in this moment, the struggle continues as many seek to erase these gains and reverse rights so recently granted to this community.]
In this edition of Anthems of Pride from WBHM, we honor Pride Month with musical protests AND celebrations of LGBTQ+ people from the late 1970’s to the present day. We hope you enjoy the show!
