Birmingham begins new curbside waste collection schedule
Birmingham’s new trash, recycling and bulk waste collection schedule kicks off on Monday, January 6.
Residents can expect regular trash pickup on one specific day each week and recycling collection on the same day every other week.
Under the old schedule, the city set aside several days each week for trash pickup in larger neighborhoods. Now, each neighborhood will only have one trash pickup day each week.
The Department of Public Works reports that by consolidating recycling routes and expanding bulk trash and brush pickup, the city will make its curbside collection program more efficient

Each neighborhood was given a number, either 1 or 2, indicating which week residents there can expect recycling collection.
The city will also change its bulk trash and brush pickup, which is now scheduled for every other week. Bulk trash comes with a separate schedule.

All three schedules can be found on the city’s website. Residents can also use the site to register for a recycling cart and join the city’s collection program.
