Winter Weather Brings School Closings

Temperatures across much of Alabama dipped into the teens and 20s after a wave of wintry precipitation, leaving some roads slick early Tuesday morning. Most dangerous conditions are west and northwest of Birmingham, though weather officials report some icy roads and overpasses in Jefferson County. Many roadways in west Alabama, including in Pickens and Sumter counties, are impassable. Officials caution against driving. You can find more information on travel warnings here.

A number of schools have canceled or delayed classes or changed instructional plans because of the weather. They include:

COVID Vaccination Sites
The winter weather has also closed COVID vaccination sites. UAB said its outdoor clinics at Parker High School and the Hoover Met will remain closed through Wednesday. Appointments will be rescheduled for Thursday or Friday.
UAB’s vaccination sites at Spain Auditorium and downtown Highlands Hospital will be open Tuesday.
The Jefferson County Department of Health will reschedule appointments for those who were to receive vaccines at Gardendale First Baptist Church Monday.
Vaccines scheduled to be given through county health departments in northern and western Alabama will be rescheduled.
