WBHM Wins Five Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards
Public Radio WBHM 90.3 FM has won five regional Edward R. Murrow awards, including the award for Overall Excellence.
WBHM also won awards in these categories:
- Feature Reporting, for “Drawing a More Diverse Crowd to the Outdoors” by Gigi Douban
- Hard News, for “Remembering Slain Alabama Sheriff ‘Big John’ Williams” by Janae Pierre
- Newscast, by Andrew Yeager
- Sports Reporting, for “Talladega Superspeedway Turns 50” by Andrew Yeager
A full list of award winners is here. Regional Murrow Award winners will now advance to compete in the national Murrow Awards competition. National winners will be announced in June.
WBHM 90.3 FM, a listener-supported service of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is “Your NPR Station” and home to the Alabama Reading Service for the blind and print-impaired. In 2019, WBHM won four regional Murrow awards, including for Overall Excellence.

The Radio Television Digital News Association has honored outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of electronic journalism.
