Some Birmingham-area schools will dismiss early or cancel after-school activities due to expected severe weather today. Strong storms capable of producing tornadoes are predicted to move across Alabama starting in the western counties in the late afternoon and continue east through the evening and overnight. School systems that have cancelled after-school activities include:

Alabaster City Schools — no activities after 5:30 p.m

Attalla City Schools — no after-school activities

Birmingham City Schools — no after-school activities

Colbert County Schools — early dismissal at 1:00 p.m.

Cullman City Schools — no after-school activities

Cullman County Schools — no after-school activities

Etowah County Schools — no activities after 5:00 p.m.

Fayette County Schools — early dismissal at 1:30 p.m.

Florence City Schools — early dismissal at 12:00 p.m.

Hale County Schools — early dismissal at 2:00 p.m.

Haleyville City Schools — early dismissal at 1:30 p.m.

Hoover City Schools — no activities after 5:30 p.m.

Jasper City Schools — dismissal at 2 p.m.

Jefferson County Schools — no after-school activities

Lamar County Schools — early dismissal at 1:00 p.m.

Lauderdale County Schools — early dismissal at 12:30 p.m.

Marion County Schools — early dismissal at 1:00 p.m.

Morgan County Schools — early dismissal at 2:00 p.m.

Muscle Shoals City Schools — early dismissal at 1:00 p.m.

Pickens County Schools — early dismissal at 12:15 p.m.

Russellville City Schools — early dismissal at 1:00 p.m.

Shelby County Schools — no activities after 6:00 p.m.

St. Clair County Schools — no activities after 5:00 p.m.

Sumter County Schools — early dismissal at 1:00 p.m.

Tallapoosa County Schools — delayed until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17

Tuscaloosa City Schools — no after-school activities

Tuscaloosa County Schools — no after-school activities

Walker County Schools — dismissal at 1:30 p.m.

Winston County Schools — closed Monday, Dec. 16
