A new Amazon facility in Bessemer is one step closer to reality. Jefferson County Commissioners unanimously approved a package of incentives for the anticipated Amazon fulfillment center Thursday morning.

The $3.3 million dollar package includes road improvements around a site owned by U.S. Steel along 1-20/59 near Bessemer City High School and other reimbursements to Amazon. Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington says the $325 million facility will create at least 1,500 new jobs.

The fulfillment center is not yet a done deal. Bessemer and the state are expected to offer their own incentive packages. But local officials say if everything falls into place, construction could start later this summer with the facility opening next year.
