Gov. Kay Ivey continued to build her campaign warchest in early October, raising almost twice as much as Democratic challenger Walt Maddox, according to reports filed Monday with the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office.

Ivey, the Republican who is seeking her first full term as governor, reported itemized cash contributions of $194,133 from Oct. 1 to Oct. 12. Maddox raised $102,024 for the same period.

That gave Ivey a total of $4.15 million in contributions since the campaign began last year, compared to $1.93 million for Maddox, who is mayor of Tuscaloosa.

Ivey’s biggest receipt for the weekly reporting period was $15,000 from the Montgomery-based engineering and architecture firm of Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood. Abbeville businessman James W. “Jimmy” Rane, founder of Great Southern Wood Preserving, is her overall top donor at $300,000

Ivey spent $422,668 during early October, leaving her with a cash balance of $357,352. Maddox spent $387,577 and reported a campaign balance of $214,869

The largest contribution to the Maddox campaign during the latest reporting period was $10,000 from T PAC, a committee chaired by longtime Montgomery lobbyist John Teague. The Democratic nominee’s biggest financial supporters overall are six Tuscaloosa-based PACs, chaired by Michael Echols, that together have given $623,400 to his campaign.

Voters will choose between Ivey and Maddox in the Nov. 6 general election.
