UAB leaders broke ground Friday on a new home for the university’s Collat School of Business.

Business School Dean Eric Jack is excited the day has finally arrived after three years of preparation and planning.

“It’s like birthing a baby,” says Jack. “Us men don’t have that luxury but that’s what it feels like to me.”

He says the four floors will roughly double the amount of space available in the school’s current building. Jack says classrooms are designed to be more collaborative and multipurpose.

The $37-million project will be paid for through a combination of donations, existing funds and debt. Construction is set to start later this month and finish in the summer of 2018.

The Collat School of Business is a financial supporter of WBHM.
