The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of north central Alabama from 9 a.m. Wednesday though midnight Wednesday. The warning covers an area roughly along the Interstate 20 corridor and north.

Forecasters expect a wintery mix of precipitation to start falling Wednesday morning, turning to snow by the afternoon and evening. Two to five inches of snow are predicted.

More information available through the National Weather Service Birmingham office.

Governor Robert Bentley on Tuesday declared a State of Emergency for all Alabama counties in preparation for winter weather that is expected to move through the state.

“With winter weather expected to impact Alabama, we are taking precautions to protect Alabamians,” Governor Robert Bentley said in a news release. “By issuing a State of Emergency, I have directed all state agencies to take necessary actions to be prepared to respond to the anticipated winter conditions including sleet, ice and snow. We will actively monitor the storm as it begins to hit the state and are prepared to respond to any requests for assistance.”

Governor Bentley has also authorized 250 Alabama National Guardsmen to assist with emergency response related to the storm.
