Anti-bullying license plate may come to Alabama
A new license plate may be coming to Alabama. As WBHM’s Amy Sedlis reports it could add to the list of over 40 specialty plates in the state.
Chances are if you’ve driven in your car you’ve noticed a specialty license plate, and Alabama has over 40 of them. Everything from Heart of Dixie, to Choose Life, to Curing Childhood Cancer. This week, the Alabama Department of Revenue’s legislative oversight committee gave approval to accept pre-orders for the state’s first ever anti-bullying plate.
As the Miss Alabama High School pagent winner, senior Baylee Smith of HIllcrest High School in Tuscaloosa is behind this effort. The plate features a blue heart ribbon, representing anti-bullying and the message Bully Free Starts with Me.
Smith plans to use social media to help spread the word for the preorders:
“That’s where bullying starts so maybe if we try to end it there….it will become better…”
Alabama requires 1,000 pre-orders before the state will produce the tag, which will cost $52.00.
