Public Radio WBHM 90.3 FM presents Magic City Writers Read, a reading and book-signing event featuring author Carla Jean Whitley, Thursday, Oct. 9, at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center. Whitley will discuss and read passages from her new book “Muscle Shoals Sound Studio: How the Swampers Changed American Music.”

WBHM 90.3 FM’s Andrew Yeager will lead a discussion with Whitley about her experiences reconstructing the fascinating history of Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, and then she will read passages from her book and take questions from the audience.

Church Street Coffee & Books will have copies of Whitley’s book available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds supporting Public Radio WBHM 90.3 FM. Whitley will also be on hand to sign books for attendees after the program.

Magic City Writers Read is a collaboration of WBHM 90.3 FM, UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, and Church Street Coffee & Books.

This event is free and open to the public. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the program starts at 7.

Carla Jean Whitley is a writer, editor and teacher based in Birmingham, Alabama, where she is managing editor of Birmingham magazine.
