Local officials are calling Tuesday’s dedication of a new children’s hospital in Birmingham the largest medical expansion in Alabama history. Leaders including Governor Robert Bentley and Birmingham Mayor William Bell helped dedicate the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children. Ben Russell, grandson of the hospital’s namesake, attended as well. The twelve story building will allow the facility to accommodate additional patients and consolidate services. The new building makes Children’s of Alabama the third largest pediatric medical center in the country.
