The Birmingham metropolitan area was under an air quality alert Wednesday for particle pollution, a code red for what officials say is a particularly dangerous situation: smoke coming from hundreds of thousands of acres burning in Georgia and Florida. But winds have shifted and the smoke has moved out of the region for now. The situation was similar last week when smoke poured into Alabama thanks to southeasterly winds. WBHM’s Steve Chiotakis spoke with Voris Williams, the Air Quality Coordinator for Alabama Partners for Clean Air about the smoke and the problems it can cause.
