WBHM NAMED MOST OUTSTANDING RADIO NEWS OPERATION

For the third year in a row, WBHM-FM/WSGN-FM has been recognized as the Most Outstanding Radio News Operation in Alabama. WBHM/WSGN won a total of eight Alabama Associated Press (AP) awards, the most of any radio station in the state.

WBHM won the award for Best Extraordinary Coverage of a Planned Event for coverage of the 2010 Election. Contributors included WBHM’s Tanya Ott, Andrew Yeager, and Bradley George; freelance reporter Donna Francavilla; and interns Weston Williams (Jefferson County International Baccalaureate) and Collin Kurre (Birmingham Southern College).

WBHM Morning Edition anchor Andrew Yeager was recognized as Best Sports Reporter and Best Specialized Reporter for his coverage of state government issues, including the bingo controversy.

“We’re thrilled that our peers have recognized the work of the WBHM news staff and freelancers,” said WBHM General Manager Mike Morgan. “Our news and production team is committed to producing high quality, substantive, sound rich programming.”

WBHM serves the Birmingham area and North Central Alabama at 90.3 FM. WSGN serves Gadsden and Northeast Alabama at 91.5 FM. Both stations offer NPR News and Classical Music.
