Tanya Ott

Tanya is WBHM's News Director. She's been hunting down good public radio stories ever since her freshman year at the University of Florida way back, well... when!

Prior to coming to Birmingham, she worked in news at WUFT-FM (Gainesville, FL), WCBS-AM (NYC), and Colorado Public Radio (Denver, CO), and spent three years as an independent producer working for the national news programs, particularly the Marketplace Morning Report. Tanya's reporting for shows like Marketplace, Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Savvy Traveler, Living on Earth, etc has garnered dozens of professional awards including an American Legion Auxilliary "Heart of America" award and a regional Edward R. Murrow. Tanya has also been cited for her work in fostering new public radio talent. While at WUFT-FM she oversaw University of Florida broadcast students producing a daily half-hour news magazine -- a task akin to trying to herd cats! She's also a trainer for the Public Radio News Directors Inc's NewsWorks program and a mentor with the Association of Independents in Radio.

Tanya and her husband, Jason, have three young daughters - Miranda, Olivia and Hannah - so there's not much free time. But, when they do manage to carve some out, the family enjoys hiking, attending wrestling tournaments (real wrestling... not the stuff on TV), and church activities.

Please feel free to email Tanya at tanya@wbhm.org if you have any questions about WBHM's news coverage or want to suggest a good story idea.
