Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia residents on Hurricane Helene aftermath

The National Weather Service downgraded Helene to a tropical storm as it moved north through the Southeast. It made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region Thursday night and has caused widespread flooding and wind damage.

Hurricane Helene first made landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The city of Cedar Key sits on the island of Way Key just off the coast and is one of the worst-hit areas so far.
