WBHM to welcome Report for America corps member

WBHM is excited to welcome Vahini Shori to its newsroom through a partnership with Report for America.

Report for America is a national service program that places journalists in local newsrooms to report on undercovered issues and communities. WBHM is proud to be part of an expanding network of more than 400 newsrooms benefiting from the support of this nonprofit.

Shori is among 107 corps members placed by RFA in news organizations across the country this year. At WBHM, she’ll develop the faith and culture beat which explores how religion is practiced in Alabama and how different faiths manifest in the social fabric, affecting everything from how medical decisions are made to how politics are practiced.

“Faith informs decision-making in interesting and complex ways across the United States, and I’m excited to learn and report how Alabamians are being informed by religion,” Shori said.

Shori will join the station in July.

WBHM Executive Director Will Dahlberg called Shori’s addition an opportunity for the WBHM audience.

“Religion is an important, but undercovered topic in Alabama,” Dahlberg said. “We’re excited to be able to shed light on how faith influences life in Alabama with care and nuance.”
