AL.com is partnering with WBHM and three other news organizations to host a virtual Birmingham mayoral debate on Aug. 17.
The debate will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be streamed live via Facebook and YouTube. It also will be available on AL.com and will be streamed by WBHM and the other partners. The event will run approximately 90 minutes.
AL.com, WBHM, the Birmingham Times, CBS 42, Summit Media and the Birmingham Association of Black Journalists are working to bring all eight mayoral candidates into the debate to provide voters the information they may need to decide which candidate deserves their vote. The event is one week before the city’s election on Aug. 24.
The candidates include Mayor Randall Woodfin, former Mayor William Bell, Lashunda Scales, Cerissa Brown, Chris Woods, Ervin Hill II, Napoleon Gonzalez, and Darryl Williams.
The debate will be hosted by WBHM’s Janae Pierre and includes panelists Roy S. Johnson (AL.com), Barnett Wright (the Birmingham Times), Sherri Jackson (BABJ/CBS42), Cody Short (WBHM) and Sheila Smoot (Summit Media). Panelists will determine questions for the candidates.
