Closings and Delays for Wednesday, January 17

As temperatures drop and driving conditions worsen, especially on secondary roards across Alabama, school systems are announcing closures for Wednesday, January 17. The below list will be updated continuously until roughly 10 p.m. Tuesday night. Several cities across Alabama have closed roadways through the overnight hours. Safety officials urge residents to stay off the roads. Even after the sun comes up, many roadways will have icy patches.

Albertville City Schools – closed

Alexander City Schools – closed

Altamont School – closed

Anniston City Schools – closed, and the police department has closed all city roads overnight.

Athens City Schools – closed

Attalla City Schools – closed

Auburn University – closed

Bevill State Community College – closed

Bessemer City Schools – closed

Bessemer Academy – closed

Bibb County Schools – closed

Birmingham City Schools – closed

Birmingham Southern College – delayed until 10:00 a.m.

Blount County Schools – closed

Boaz City Schools – closed

Briarwood Christian School – closed

Calhoun County Schools – closed

Chilton County Schools – closed

University of Alabama at Birmingham – closed until 1 pm at least; if this schedule remains, the first classes to resume would be those that begin at 1:25 p.m., and the first ambulatory patient appointments would begin at 1 p.m.
