It’s been a strange few days for supporters of Birmingham’s Ensley neighborhood. Last week, Birmingham Mayor William Bell announced the city would spend $40 million dollars to renovate the dilapidated Ramsay McCormack Tower. The city would move the fire and police department headquarters there along with the city’s municipal court in an effort to revitalize the ailing neighborhood. But then a Jefferson County judge ruled on a lawsuit saying the city had to tear down the building. There’s now a hearing scheduled for next week to reconsider the decision.
