Birmingham City Council Back to Business as Usual After Bell-Lundy Altercation

Birmingham City Hall.

Following last week’s fight between Mayor William Bell and Councilman Marcus Lundy, it was business as usual today in the chambers of the Birmingham City Council.

The council convened this morning for their weekly meeting at city hall and appeared poised to get down to business before adjourning for the holiday.

“Acknowledge, oh God, our sins and shortcomings, misunderstandings that have erupted into brawls, petty sectional differences within this great metropolitan region, that have kept us from working effectively together and thus in many ways hindered our growth and stunted our well-being,” said Reverend Dr. Ed G. Hurley, who gave the opening invocation and made the only mention of last week’s altercation.

The fight broke out during a regular council meeting last Tuesday. Bell filed charges alleging Lundy attacked him. Bell withdrew his complaint last week and the two men have since reconciled.
