UAB has a new president. The University of Alabama Systems Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Ray Watts as UAB’s seventh president this morning. Watts is a Birmingham native who graduated from the university. He’s been a department chair and most recently served as the dean of the UAB School of Medicine. WBHM’s Andrew Yeager spoke with Watts shortly after Friday’s meeting and asked why he wanted to make the jump from dean to university president.
