Birmingham is now in month four of commemorating the Civil Rights events of 1963. Some people welcome the chance to remember. Others say it was 50 years ago, why open old wounds? Pulitzer Prize-winning author Diane McWhorter tells WBHM’s William Dahlberg that remembering is important, but she has some reservations about how Birmingham is marking the anniversary.
Tonight, Diane McWhorter will appear at the Birmingham Public Library with author Jonathan Rieder to discuss his book “Gospel of Freedom,” which delves deeply into Martin Luther King’s letter from a Birmingham jail. Details here.
