HIV/AIDS in the South

A new report from the Southern AIDS Coalition says HIV has taken hold in the Deep South, plaguing some of the poorest people in the country and creating a health disaster. The report notes that while the Southeastern region has the highest levels of HIV infections, it receives the smallest amount of federal funding to help combat the disease. WBHM’s Steve Chiotakis spoke with Kathie Hiers, CEO of AIDS Alabama and a co-chair of the coalition about the report and what can be done to combat the rise in infections.
