In the late 1970’s Athens, Georgia didn’t have much to offer in the way of music. One night, a group of friends were hanging out and decided to write a song. After all, it was something to do. A few months later, the B-52s were playing their first gig. Thirty-two years later they’re still making music. Best known for their upbeat party songs such as Rock Lobster and Love Shack, their sound is a fusion of punk, new wave and vintage rock. Tomorrow night, the B-52s play the Crawfish Boil in downtown Birmingham. WBHM’s Michael Krall spoke with Fred Schneider (right of center with sunglasses) of the B-52s, and asked him about the group’s signature sound….
Hate groups in the US decline but their influence grows, report shows
In its annual Year in Hate and Extremism report, released Thursday, the Southern Poverty Law Center said it counted 1,371 hate and extremist groups, a 5% decline.
